This page is dedicated to my monster 3D printer design creation with a bed sized 40 by 40 cm.
This is a cartesian style printer I’m working on for a couple of years. Through this journey I understood that in 3D printing go bigger os not always the wise thing to do.
Although the design was inspired by the Mendel 3D printer mainly on the usage of rods, I got crazy from the beginning building something from scratch.
The result that very quickly the printer started to work but then… the problems started.
First problem was vibrations due to the extremely large bed moving on top of two m8 rods. Furthermore the rods due to their size were plain iron rods meaning that also bending due to the deb’s size and weight was occurring.
First solution was to acquire larger M12 rods and bearings and replace the entire y movement. This reduced the problem but vibrations still existing through the size of the entire structure.
The second solution was to screw the printer and stabilize it in a stable position on a firm surface and this removed totally the vibrations together with several adjustments of acceleration.
