Below you can find a gallery of paintings I made in pigments and PVA glue trying to replicate the style of Rembrandt and several portraits he made over the years using pigments and PVA glue.
The major challenge I had to address is that PVA glue is not transparent as oil paints and thus it is extremely difficult to render transparent background shadow colors and deep dark color to render the effect of absence of light.
